Best Sportsbook Apps in the US (2026)
The right sportsbook app depends on where you live, what sports you bet, and how much the welcome bonus actually matters to you. We've downloaded, funded, and cashed out on dozens of licensed US sportsbook apps so you don't have to guess.
What Makes a Sportsbook App Worth Using?
A licensed app has to clear a few basic bars before we recommend it. It needs a valid state-issued license, a functional mobile experience on both iOS and Android, and a payout process that doesn't take a week and a half. Beyond that, we look at odds quality, market depth, and whether the bonus terms are realistic for a normal bettor.
Legal mobile sports betting is available in a growing number of US states. New Jersey (regulated by the NJ DGE), Pennsylvania (PGCB), and Michigan (MGCB) are three of the most active licensed mobile markets in the country right now. The American Gaming Association's state gaming map tracks which markets are live and which are still pending.

Which Sportsbook Apps Are Actually Licensed?
This is the first thing to check. Plenty of offshore apps target US bettors without holding a single state license. If something goes wrong — a denied withdrawal, a disputed bet — you have zero regulatory recourse. Always look up the operator on your state regulator's approved-licensee list before you deposit.
Don't rely on the app's own claims. If you're unsure how to vet an app, our sportsbook apps FAQ answers the most common questions about licensing, age requirements, and taxes.
How Do Sportsbook Apps Work on iPhone and Android?
Most licensed apps are available directly on the App Store or Google Play. Some Android versions require a direct APK download from the operator's website because Google historically restricted real-money gambling apps — though that's changed for many markets. Either way, the install takes a few minutes.
After you install the app, you'll register, complete KYC (identity verification), and fund your account. Geolocation runs in the background every time you open the app. If you're physically outside a licensed state, bets won't go through. Disabling location services or using a VPN will trigger that block — and it also violates the operator's terms.
What Bet Types Can You Place?
Every major licensed app covers moneyline, point-spread, and totals (over/under) markets. Most also offer parlays, same-game parlays, teasers, and live (in-play) betting. US sportsbooks display odds in American format — the familiar −110 or +150 style. A standard −110 line on both sides of a spread implies a theoretical hold of roughly 4.5% for the book.
College sports are available on most apps, but some states restrict wagering on in-state college teams. Check your state's rules before you place those bets. Our guide to the best sportsbook apps for parlays goes deeper on builders, same-game parlays, and odds boosts.
Are Winnings From Sportsbook Apps Taxable?
Yes. All gambling winnings are taxable federal income. An operator issues a W-2G when net winnings from a single wager hit $600 or more and the payout is at least 300× the stake. Federal withholding at 24% kicks in at $5,000 net. You can deduct gambling losses up to the amount of your winnings on Schedule A. Full details are at IRS Topic No. 419.
